I started working at Deer Valley a couple of days after my arrival; during those non-working days I got to meet the restaurant manager and the assistants managers (2), do the paperwork, get my ID card and get ready to start work. Don't forget, when you go do the paperwork in Human Resources (HR), you should take your passport among other papers with you. They'll also provide a Staff Handbook "A Guide to Your Success at Deer Valley Resort".

About Deer Valley: This Ski Resort has 3 main areas where skiers can go to have some rest

1) Snowpark: Is the one located at the bottom of the mountain and the oldest building among the main 3 that exists. Is where the Ski World Cup takes place and I don't really know what else to say about this place. I think is the only one that has Guest Service Attendants staff, where they receive all the guests that will go skiing, receive them skis, etc.
This place is also where Human Resources (HR) is! So if you have to go to HR, you should go there.
The EDR (Employee Dining Room) is called "The Spoon" and is the biggest among the 3 main lodges.

2) Silver Lake: Is the lodge located mid-mountain, and people say is the one that gets busier during the whole season, because everybody makes a break in the middle of the mountain to get warmer, have a coffee, have lunch, etc.
The EDR is called "The Grotto" and is not that big, but is nice.

3) Empire Lodge: This one is a very little place at the upper mountain; It's almost like a house, where they serve some beautiful and yummy Panini, among other things. The manager from that place is not the same as the other 2 lodges.

Each restaurant has different divisions (rooms) where, in the case of Restaurant Attendants, you'll be assigned for the day.
Why do I talk about the EDR so much? because is the best when you get to have a break. You can have a soda, water, juice, coffee, hot chocolate, tea; you can buy a cookie, sandwich, have some fries, etc. You can also have breakfast in there (you have the right to have either a bagel (typical bread from the US) or milk with cereal, and anything available to drink.
And of course, for lunch you can have the main dish, a salad, dessert, veggie special, among other things, but you'll have to pay for it (it'll discounted from your paycheck).
Prices? It'll depend:
The special is US 3,50 (the special of the day)
I don't remember the other prices, but a small salad was about 1,50 I think.
The cookies will make you bankrupt, so be careful with them.
What I miss the most about my country was the food; It's not bad, but is too seasoned.
Your uniform will depend on your position, but I'll write that in the next post.

Comencé a trabajar en Deer Valley un par de días luego de mi llegada; durante los días que no trabajé, conocí a la administradora del restaurant y sus dos asistentes, hice el papeleo necesario, obtuve my tarjeta de identificación y me preparé para comenzar a trabajar. Que no se les olvide, cuando vayan a hacer el papeleo en Recursos Humanos (HR), tienen que llevar su pasaporte además de los demás papeles (oferta de trabajo, VISA J1, etc.). También te entregarán un Manual del Personal (Staff Handbook) que es "Una Guía para Tu Éxito en Deer Valley Resort".

Sobre Deer Valley: El resort tiene 3 áreas principales donde los clientes que van a esquiar se sientan, descansan, etc.

1) Snowpark: Es el que está a los pies de la montaña y es el lodge más viejo dentro de los 3 principales. Es el lugar donde se realiza la Copa Mundial de Ski, y no sé qué más decir de este lugar haha. Creo que es el único que tiene personas de Guest Service Attendants, donde reciben a los clientes, sus esquíes, etc.
Acá es donde está ubicado Recursos Humanos, así que si tienen que ir, vayan a Snowpark.
El Comedor de Empleados (EDR = Employee Dining Room) se llama "The Spoon" y es el más grande dentro de los 3 existentes

2) Silver Lake: Está ubicado a medio camino de la montaña hacia arriba y la mayoría de las personas dice que es el lugar más concurrido durante la temporada, porque todos los clientes toman un descanso en medio de la montaña para calentarse, tomar café, chocolate caliente, almorzar, etc.
El Comedor de Empleados (EDR = Employee Dining Room) se llama "The Grotto" y no es tan grande, pero es agradable.

Cada restaurant tiene diferentes cuartos donde, en el caso de los Restaurant Attendant, serán asignados por el día.
¿Por qué hablo tanto del Comedor de Empleados? (espero que todos sepan que se le dice EDR (i-di-ar con tono yankee)
Porque es lo mejor cuando uno quiere tomar un descanso. Puedes tomar un refresco, agua, jugo, café, chocolate caliente, té (los líquidos son gratis); puedes comprar una galleta, sándwich, comer papas fritas, etc. También se puede tomar desayuno ahí (tienes derecho a comer un bagel (es el pan típico de EEUU) o tomar cereal con leche, y cualquier cosa para tomar que esté disponible).
Por supuesto, para el almuerzo puedes comer un plato principal, ensalada, postre, especial vegetariano, entre otras cosas, pero hay que pagar por eso (se descuenta del paycheck).
¿Precios? va a depender:
El especial del día cuesta 3,50 dólares
No me acuerdo de los otros precios, pero una ensalada pequeña salía 1,50 US, creo.
Las galletas te van a hacer quedar en la banca rota, así que cuidado con ellas.
Lo que más extrañé de mi país era la comida; no es que sea mala en Gringolandia, pero es muy condimentada.
El uniforme que tengas dependerá de la posición que tengas en DV, pero escribiré sobre eso en el siguiente post.
